Seattle is nicknamed the Emerald City and is indeed a gem of a place. Its manmade landmark is the 605 feet tall Space Needle, built for the 1962 World's Fair. The restaurant at the top rotates to provide its diners with a 360 degree view of the city and Puget Sound. Its natural landmark is Mt Rainier, the 14,411 foot volcano that watches over the city from nearly 60 miles away.
Our path north took us on Chuckanut Drive. This scenic local road weaves and hugs the side of the Chuckanut Mountains as it overlooks the beautiful San Juan Islands, jewels in Washington State's Puget Sound.
