At nearly three miles in height, Mount Rainier is the tallest peak in the Cascade Range; it dwarfs 6,000-foot surrounding summits, appearing to float alone among the clouds. This view is from Chinook Pass and is identical to my first real experience of "The Mountain" that has stayed with me for 30 years.
