Windy Ridge Mt. St. Helens
Overview Map (opens in a new window)
At only 16 miles long, FR 99 is a short road, but it is packed with curves that are pretty technical. Although the detailed map shows a very curvy road, it does not do justice to the real thing. Here is just a brief section before it curves around the mountain and disappears into some dense fog.
If you can pay attention to the scenery it is pretty awesome too - through a normal forest and then the devastated landscape from Mt St Helens' eruption over 25 years ago.
FR 99 is on the eastern side of Mt. St. Helens and runs from FR 25 to the Windy Ridge View Point. Be warned, summer weekends can attract lots of slow tourists and the Forest Service roads getting to FR 99 are pretty bumpy.
