The old town part of Sperlonga is a fun little village of whitewashed buildings along the coast north of Naples.
The white buildings become golden in the sunset.
The hilltop (kind of a small hill) village of Sperlonga comes right out to the sea. We stayed in the newer section that is on the beach.
The beach spreads west, well beyond the new section of Sperlonga seen here.
Sperlonga is filled with narrow stairways meandering through the village.
Cobblestone walkways are interconnected throughout the top of Sperlonga and can lead one to delightfully wander around in circles. Don't ask me how I know that.
This is the main square of the old town in Sulmona, located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Sulmona is one of the oldest towns in Abruzzo, with many buildings dating back to the Middle Ages or earlier. We stayed just a block from this main square.
While we were having an afternoon snack at an outdoor cafe in Sulmona, this religious parade went down the street next to us. Very fun place.
This is the Piazza del Popolo in the medieval walled city of Ascoli Piceno. We stayed right in the middle of the walled city near this elegant square. Driving through the old city with its narrow one-way streets, actually alleys, and arriving at our hotel was certainly challenging. But we did it.
