Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
The Salzburg Cathedral is the visual and spiritual center of the Old Town of Salzburg. With its magnificent facade and mighty dome it represents the most impressive early Baroque edifice north of the Alps.
Salzburg is known as the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the true pioneers of classical music.
Not only is Salzburg known for its powerful history and rich architecture, it was also the setting for the hit movie, "The Sound of Music." There are several locations within the Altstadt that were featured in the movie.
Getreidegasse (also known as Grain Lane) offers upmarket boutiques set amongst medieval streets and picturesque courtyards, musicians and performers.
