The Rhine River has been and still is a much busier commerce mover than the Mosel. Perhaps as a result, the Rhine Valley exudes a bit more energy and things seem somewhat higher paced.
Barges take goods up and down the Rhine River.
The castles along the Rhine were often used to guard the river and only allow ships' passage after payment of a toll.
Several castles now provide unique lodging experiences. We stayed one lovely night in the Castle Liebenstein.
